Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:30 A.M.

PRESENTATION CEREMONY OF NEW FIRE ENGINE-NORTHEAST TELLER COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
On the morning of April 4, 2015, in Woodland Park, Colorado, the Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District celebrated with fire department members, family, friends, and the public, their newest fire apparatus going into service. This ceremony took place at NETCO Fire Station 1, located at 1010 Evergreen Heights Drive. Northeast Teller County Fire Chief, Tyler Lambert, spoke at the ceremony. The Fire Captain Stimits, spoke to the audience about some of the improved capabilities of the new fire engine compared to the old engine, and how needs have changed since the last apparatus was placed in service over 12 years ago. The fire district board president, Jim Ignatius, spoke on the importance of getting this new apparatus to better serve the community. A pastor gave a blessing over the fire department, firefighters, and the new fire engine. Following tradition, the old fire engine 1, was pushed to the rear of the apparatus bay. The new fire engine 1, a 2014 Pierce Velocity Engine, was pushed into the bay, and was now ready for service to the community. Attendees were offered beverages, refreshments, and cake to celebrate the occasion. The public was invited to look at all the compartments and tools aboard the new apparatus.

Built by Pierce Manufacturing, this new engine is constructed on a 4-wheel drive Velocity chassis. It features a 500hp Detroit Diesel Engine, 1500 gallon per minute pump, carries 800 gallons of water, extendable light tower, and seats four firefighters.

The purchase of this vehicle demonstrates the follow through on a commitment the Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District made to the community when they overwhelming supported a property tax initiative in 2012. The purchase and placement into service of this new engine, will aid in protecting an increasing number of commercial buildings in the community and represents a tremendous leap forward in capability and safety for the firefighters.

The Northeast Teller County Fire Protection District provides a complete range of emergency services to the residents and visitors of their district. The district serves the City of Woodland Park, Colorado, and the surrounding unincorporated county from the Teller County line on the east to Johnson’s Hill on the west. Their jurisdiction goes north to the Douglas County line and south to El Paso County. The fire district area is just over 82 square miles.
