Wetmore Fire Colorado Day 2

Today is October 24th, 2012 and Day 2 of the Wetmore Fire in Custer County, Colorado. Yesterday there was 0% containment and fire crews had to deal with wind gusts close to 80MPH. Today crews were able to get 15% containment of this fire and also they were able to use air support in fighting this massive fire.

Media Information number: (719) 582- 8448
Located: 1 mile south west of Wetmore Colo.
First call came in at 1:32 PM / 10/23/12 and was reported as a wildland fire of unknown origin.
Cause: Unknown (being investigated)
Fire size: 2100 acres.
Structures: 14 residential homes damaged. All structures lost are in Custer County.
Resources: Firefighters from 16 agencies are on scene. 160 firefighters Type 2 Team briefing with the current IC is at 18:00 2 Type 1 Helicopter / Type 3 Helicopter / 2 SEATS and 1 Air attack 2 Hot Shot hand crews / 2 type 2 hand crews and 11 Engines
Evacuation areas: are Greenwood, Wetmore, and east of Wetmore into Pueblo County. Reverse 911 was being utilized, however due to fire damage of utility lines; a multi-agency, house-to-house notification was implemented.
Evacuated parties are being referred to: Baptist Church at 303 E. 3rd Street in Florence, CO. Mail for residents of Wetmore can be picked up at Florence Post Office starting later today.

Disaster Recovery Information Center- One stop resource for victims will include insurance and other programs to help with recovery. Friday October 26th , 2012 from 10:00am - 7:00pm and Saturday October 27th from 9:00am - 5:00pm at Wetmore Volunteer Fire Station, 200 County Road 290
Large Animals are being referred to; Pathfinder Park, Canon City Crossroads Event Center, Penrose The Colorado State Fairgrounds, Pueblo. Los Pinos Equestrian Center and Purple Heart Ranch. 109 Yucca Ave, Florence. (970) 846 - 6927 Taking livestock - There is Veterinary on call. In Westcliffe, domestic animals are being accepted at the Custer County Fairgrounds. Contact Eskridge Veterinary at (719) 240 - 6880 for help with domestic animals.

Road Closures: Colorado 96 is closed westbound from Red Creek road to Wetmore. Eastbound from Colorado Highway 96 and County Road 387 to Wetmore. Colorado 67 is closed southbound from County Road 15 to Wetmore.
The day's plan is to: keep fire east and south of Hwy 96, keep fire west of Siloam Road, keep fire north of Middle Red Creek and Forest Service Road 388 in Custer County .
