On the afternoon of August 27, 2013, Peyton Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a traffic accident at U.S. Highway 24 and McClelland Road in El Paso County, Colorado. Peyton Fire Engine 3610 arrived first on scene and reported a semi-truck on it's side in the ravine and another damaged vehicle. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured and the other vehicle was a pickup truck, with the driver unaccounted for. Calhan Fire Department also responded to the scene with an engine. U.S. Highway 24 was shut down for hours, as two heavy duty tow trucks worked to upright the semi in the ravine. Emergency crews searched roads in the neighboring area for the missing driver, but were unsuccessful in finding the pickup driver. Colorado State Patrol Hazardous Materials Team worked to remove diesel fuel from one tank on the semi, that had been damaged and leaking. Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
