Date of Incident-December 19, 2013 Ice Rescue at Pond in Nancy Lewis Park
On December 19, 2013, 2:50PM, Colorado Springs Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a dog and person through the ice at Nancy Lewis Park off of Templeton Gap Road. Fire Engine 6 Rescue Crew arrived on scene quickly, and donned their dry suits. Rescuers successfully rescued the person from the frigid waters of the pond, who was approximately 30 feet from the shore. Next rescue crews worked on getting the dog out. Both parties were removed quickly from the pond at the park. The patient was transported to a hospital via AMR Ambulance for further evaluation. The dog, with no apparent injuries, was released to a friend of the owner.
